Woven art inspired by nature…

My weaving journey started when I bought a simple frame loom and started experimenting with it, making small weavings with the pile of vintage wool that I had collected over the years. As I grew in confidence I began to try different techniques and styles and was soon completely hooked. I became mesmerised with the movement of the yarn going back and forward and the slowly emerging patterns and shapes that the thread creates beneath my hands.

My textile art is inspired by the natural world; the sea, sky and rolling fields and mountains, the colours and textures of grasses and rocks, moss and shells. I am particularly drawn to the landscapes of South Wales where I grew up, West Wales and the Scottish Highlands, places that hold a special magic for me, and where I have spent many happy days. The yarns used in my weavings are either second-hand or made from natural materials. Please see the gallery below for some of my recent work.

I would love to work with you if you have a particular scene or landscape that you would like me to create for you, or anything else for that matter. Please email me at maddocks.mary@gmail.com
